and animal sacrifices. Each day of the week also corresponds to a specific sikidy configuration. The rectangular form of the house represents the celestial vault; thus, as in the astrological house, the vintana are placed in the four corners and on the walls.
Inside the center section one finds representations of astral elements. They include the sun (masoandro, left center west), the moon (volana, right center east), and a star (kintana, top center northeast). Constellations are symbolized by insects (bottom center south), including two poisonous spiders, matahora and hala mena vody, and a scorpion, maingoka.
Then there are the beings who have esoteric knowledge: Komandiny, the commandant of the guardians of destiny (large figure, left center) and the thirty-five guardians of destiny themselves, the mpiandry alifo, who are posted around the edges of the calendar.
The seven days of the week are represented by circles arranged in a vertical row in the center of the interior section. The days' names are of Arabic origin: Alahady (Sunday, second from top), Alatsinainy (Monday, first at top), Talata (Tuesday, seventh from top), Alarobia (Wednesday, sixth from top), Alakamisy (Thursday, fifth from top), Zoma (Friday, fourth from top), and Asabotsy (Saturday, third from top).
