7. In the event of death, the deceased's residential group must offer compensation to the uterine ascent for the woman's services and fertility. The deceased is thereby handed back to the uncles who represent her uterine origin. When there has been murderous sorcery, the compensation is the equivalent of the bridewealth (Devisch 1979:140-46).

8. The oracle about Suuta's illness revealed the omission of reconciliation after the killing of Suuta's father by sorcery and the ignoring of the division within the group. This omission at the root of Suuta's illness could temporarily have been ritually neutralized by the head of the family. By being required to offer a chicken, the head of the family is being indirectly accused of malevolent omission, i.e, sorcery.

9. This diviner offers water, over which a spell has been uttered, to any doubter of the oracle. Such a test reveals the guilty and kills him.

10. To prevent the effect of the curse overtaking Suuta's younger sister and to prevent the second head of the family directing his malevolent acts against primary kinsmen of Suuta, he is asked as a sign of his reconciliation to offer a chicken to Suuta's sister.
