Ray Bradbury is a major author in the SF world, but his work has never
really been part of the SF mainstream. There is very little science in
his work, even in his most SF-ish collection "The Martian Chronicles".
Most of his work is either mood pieces, fantasy or horror. Virtually all
of his work has been short stories (or poems or plays). There is,
however, nothing quite like his prose. It has a very strong sense of
place and character: small town, middle america for the most part.
People who haven't tried Bradbury (both of you), good places to start are
"The Martian Chronicles", "Fahrenheit 451" and "The Illustrated Man".
